Menendez Amerino is headquartered in São Gonçalo dos Campos, in the Recôncavo Baiano — a choice that goes far beyond geographic location. Being in this region means remaining close to the origins of one of the most important traditions of Brazilian tobacco and a body of knowledge built across generations.
The Recôncavo brings together favorable natural conditions for tobacco cultivation and, above all, a singular human heritage. They are farmers, workers, and artisans who preserve knowledge handed down through time, from the cultivation and curing of the leaves to the different stages of handcrafted cigar making.
Our production process is a fully artisanal manufacture, from planting to the finished product. Every leaf is carefully selected, treated, and hand-rolled by experienced artisans, ensuring the premium character of our cigars. This rigor and dedication result in products of internationally recognized quality — not only for their unique flavor and aroma, but also for the sophisticated design that carries tradition and culture.

Our Brands
Created in 1982, Dona Flor was born inspired by the celebrated character from the novel Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands. The brand is a tribute to the writer Jorge Amado, conceived by Mário Amerino Portugal, co-founder of the company. In its essence, it translates the personality, culture, and sensory richness of Bahia. Throughout its history, it has become one of the greatest expressions of the Brazilian premium cigar, achieving international recognition and awards.
Its blends celebrate the diversity of Brazilian tobaccos, especially the richness of the Bahian terroir, combining balance, aromatic complexity, and distinct personality. Earthy, woody, spicy, and naturally sweet notes compose distinct experiences, united by a signature of elegance and identity.
Present across multiple markets, Dona Flor brings to the world a genuinely Brazilian expression of the art of cigar making.
The Alonso Menendez brand was created by Félix Menendez in 1980 as a tribute to his father. Its cigars feature a medium-strength blend with pronounced flavor, with Connecticut, Mata Fina, and Cubra wrappers, and Mata Fina and Mata Norte filler, available in vitolas such as Double Corona, Robusto, Corona, and Gran Corona. Destined for a discerning palate, these products are recognized for their high quality.
In 2018, the Alonso Del Patron line was launched, created by Félix and Arturo, with Robusto and Corona vitolas, followed by the Gran Corona in 2019. The brand blends Cuban and Bahian tobacco and is praised as one of the best on the market. The Alonso Menendez Churchill was singled out by Spanish sommelier Manuela Romeralo as one of the ten best cigars in the world.

Mata Fina

Originating from one of the most traditional tobacco-producing regions of the Recôncavo Baiano, Mata Fina is renowned for the delicacy and quality of its leaves. Thin, silky, elastic, and resilient, they feature delicate veins and tones ranging from brown to dark brown.
With excellent combustibility, it produces light, cohesive ash. Sensorially, it stands out for its smoothness, balance, and aromatic richness. Its refined character may reveal earthy, woody, and toasted notes that evolve with the selection, curing, and fermentation of the leaves.
Its combination of aroma, elasticity, resilience, and combustibility makes Mata Fina a tobacco especially valued in the crafting of high-quality cigars, capable of comprising wrapper, binder, and filler. Specialized literature also internationally recognizes its mild character.

Mata Norte
Intensity, body, and personality.
Cultivated north of the traditional Mata Fina zone, Mata Norte develops its own characteristics. Its leaves display a more pronounced structure, thicker texture and veins, less elasticity, and tones ranging from brown to reddish-brown.
It has highly active combustibility and a more intense sensorial expression. Its profile combines characteristic sweetness, pronounced aroma, greater body and presence, potentially developing earthy, toasted, and spicy notes depending on the leaf and its processing.
This personality makes Mata Norte an important element in blend construction, especially when one wishes to add structure, intensity, and sensorial depth. Specialized sources equally distinguish Mata Norte from Mata Fina by its fuller-bodied and earthier character.
